So/Berlin das Stue - Berlin

S O B E R L I N D A S S T U E

Welcome to the luxurious boutique hotel SO Berlin Das Stue. This is a place where you can spy on ostriches, fill up on inventive Mediterranean 'appetite noshes', and reach all of Berlin’s best bits in an easy stroll. The former Royal Danish Embassy has a pearl-white spa with Alpine-influenced treatments, whimsical animal motifs and flawless design, courtesy of Spanish interiors whizz, Patricia Urquiola.

You’re right at the heart of Berlin. The hotel's location on the south-western edge of Berlin's largest park, the sprawling Tiergarten, means that guests have immediate to a vast green wonderland — as well as the historic Berlin Zoo right next door. The pretty Landwehr Canal, which cuts right through the city from West to East, is a short stroll away, as is Charlottenburg (City West) with its endless cafés, restaurants, shops and sights.

The hotel's 78 guestrooms – which include a mix of Stue Rooms, Embassy Rooms and Suites – are split between the original building and a newer annex that's clad in the same floral-patterned concrete surface you'll spot on the outdoor terrace. The rooms are high-end, with dark hardwood floors, contemporary furnishings whose sliding walls and handle-less cupboards invite playful pushes and prods, and elegant fabrics used throughout. Most rooms come with views of the adjacent Tiergarten, with some of the Embassy rooms and all of the suites boasting generous balconies; some also come with funky free-standing bathtubs. The hotel's Michelin-starred Cinco restaurant is the culinary highlight of the hotel, thanks to its its distinctive interior – one large table, a brass kitchenware sculpture on the ceiling, a few private tables – and high-end Spanish-Mediterranean fusion experiments. The Casual Restaurant, which also doubles as the breakfast room, serves up a very good menu of tapas-style shared dishes, plus meat and fish dishes such as lobster pasta and duck.
